Bestoun S. Ahmed, Ph.D.

I received a B.Sc. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Salahaddin-Erbil, in 2004, an M.Sc. degree from University Putra Malaysia, in 2009, and the Ph.D. degree in software engineering from University Sains Malaysia (USM), in 2012. I was Research Fellow with the Software Engineering Research Group, USM. I then served as a Senior Lecturer with Salahaddin University. I spent one year doing my Postdoctoral research at the Swiss AI Lab Istituto Dalle Molle di Studi sull’Intelligenza Artificiale, Lugano University, Switzerland. I was also an Assistant Professor with Czech Technical University, Prague. I joined Karlstad University Sweden as senior lecturer in 2019, prompted to Associate Professor (Docent) in 2020 and then promoted to full Professor in 2023.  My primary research interests, AI engineering, Software testing, search-based software testing, computational intelligence.

  • Quality Assurance: Quality assurance of machine learning and data-driven systems.
  • Software Testing: Mutation testing, Regression testing, Interaction testing, GUI interaction testing, Automated testing, and Smart TV app testing.
  • Trustworthy AI systems: Software Engineering for AI, SE4AI.
  • Test Generation algorithms: Combinatorial interaction tools, statistical test generation.
  • Quality Assurance of IoT Systems: Quality aspects of IoT systems.
  • Applied Soft Computing: Optimizations in software engineering, control parameter optimization, Combinatorial Optimization, and its applications

  • 15 May 2023, our paper on dynamic drift adaptive learning titled, "DA-LSTM: A Dynamic Drift-Adaptive Learning Framework for Interval Load Forecasting with LSTM Networks", has been accepted in the Engineering Application of Artificial Intelligence Journal. 
  • 28 April 2023, our paper on ML robustness titled "A Domain-Region Based Evaluation of ML Performance Robustness to Covariate Shift", has been accepted in Neural Computing and Applications journal. 
  • 12 April 2023, our paper on Data Quality verification titled "DQSOps: Data Quality Scoring Operations Framework for Data-Driven Applications" has been accepted in The International Conference on Evaluation and Assessment in Software Engineering (EASE) conference.
